    Contact Report:

Enemy Encountered: 30-35 <Reign> <Vicious> and other various Imperial Conscripts

    Friendly/Neutral Encountered: 9 <Marine Expeditionary Unit>, Malcon <Red Brigade>, 2-4 Additional Republic Conscripts

    Event Summary:

While assisting the T.H.O.R.N. organization in its fight against the rakghoul plague on Tatooine, Alpha Company forces encountered resistance from a small band of Imperials operating under the banner of <Vicious>. A squad sized element of Alpha Company troopers (with recon support) deployed to the planet in order to conduct security operations and ensure continued support for the T.H.O.R.N. extermination effort. After establishing a cordon around Imperial insertion points into the region, the Empire quickly rallied an overwhelming force of 30-35 strong to push Alpha Company forces back to the Republic staging area.

Although follow on attacks against the Imperials inflicted a large number of casualties upon the enemy, Alpha Company's force was too badly outnumbered and failed to hold on to captured territory for any lengthy period before being repulsed by the overwhelming size of the Imperial line. At this time, a call went out to nearby Republic military forces operating on the planet's surface. A second squad sized element from <Marine Expeditionary Unit> arrived on scene to supplement Alpha Company's existing fighting force. Working together, this combined force took the fight back to the Empire.

The enemy force had established its own blockade around the Republic's insertion point into the rakghoul tunnels, but were quickly beaten back and scattered by the renewed Republic offensive. Once pushed off of their blockade position, Imperial forces attempted to counter-attack against the reinforced Republic lines. Anticipating these maneuvers, Alpha Company forces and their supporting elements from <Marine Expeditionary Unit> established designated kill zones at key choke points throughout the tunnels. Republic forces lured the enemy into these designated areas en mass and unleashed a devastating barrage of mortar, plasma, and blaster fire that tore the Imperial lines apart.

Unable to regain the upper hand and suffering massive casualties at the hands of coordinated Republic firepower, Imperial forces fell back to their insertion points. Republic forces again established a protective cordon to keep the Imperials isolated and unable to interfere with rakghoul extermination operations. Elements from Ghost Squad reported additional Imperial activity behind the main defensive screen, prompting a fire team of Alpha Company troopers to begin a roving patrol through the tunnels, clearing out any Imperial contacts they encountered. This effort proved to be highly effective in purging all lingering Imperials that evaded the Republic's offensive push.

After a short lull, the Imperial forces regrouped and began assaulting the defensive line in force. As attrition and weariness began setting in on the steadfast troopers, the Republic's line was forced to fall back to a secondary defensive position. This maneuver drew the enemy into unfavorable terrain and allowed Republic forces to whittle away the hostile force. Although the Republic was driven back into this secondary position several times, the Imperials could not maintain the fight at this location. Their lines broke in short order, allowing the Republic to return to its primary defensive perimeter.

After several hours of nearly constant fighting, the steady stream of Imperials thinned, and major hostilities came to a close. Alpha Company's commander issued the order to withdraw from the engagement zone and allow troopers to recover from the enduring operation. This message was quickly passed to the assisting <Marine Expeditionary Unit> forces in order to ensure their safety after Alpha Company's line pulled out.

Alpha Company forces then executed a fighting withdrawal from the region, and redeployed to Tatooine's surface to eradicate a large infected reek (Plaguethorn) before being extracted back to the Repulse for rest and refit. All troopers returned safely by 2230h EST.

    Positive Points:
    • Due to an effective command and control system being in place, our combined force of multiple guilds was still able to execute extremely effective fire missions, counter-attacks, and counter-flanking maneuvers which crippled the enemy's tactics. (Great job on comms CPL. Vejovis Broodlord, our forces worked together seamlessly).
    • SGT. Zidd Decker and CPL. Rike Galon showed exemplary small unit leadership as they cleared out the rakghoul tunnels of Imperials that slipped past our line.
    • Throughout the fighting our vanguards provided an effective screen for our commandos, allowing them to rain deadly firepower down on enemy forces with minimal pressure.
    • Our force utilized terrain and elevation effectively to protect our less durable elements and ensure a strong base of fire was being maintained on enemy's line.
    • We had a kickass firefight on the platoon-sized scale that lasted for two hours, what more could you ask for?
    Negative Points:
    • Our force suffered from a lack of comm discipline in the early stages of the engagement, but was quickly rectified once identified.
    • We were overwhelmed by the sheer size of the enemy force in the initial stages of the engagement and required additional reinforcements from outside the unit to counter the threat.
    Overall Assessment and Recommendation:

The most important thing we learned today was that Alpha Company and <Marine Expeditionary Unit> can effectively work together as a team against a veteran Imperial force. The enemies we faced today are enemies we will be facing continuously in the days ahead. We proved that we have the tactics, training, and strength to best them in open combat. It is highly likely that these encounters will continue to happen in the future, as each faction rallies together in order to exert its dominance in Galactic Strongholds. We'll be ready for them.
