    Areas Patrolled: N/A

    Initial Contact: N/A

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    Contact Report:

    Enemy Encountered: <UMBRA>, <Reign>

    Friendly/Neutral Encountered: <Uncharted Space>

    Contact Summary:

The Corellia system became vulnerable to invasion this week, and the Imperial legions of <UMBRA> quickly launched a full scale offensive in an effort to seize the planet from the Republic. As distress calls rang out from Corellia's surface, the RWS Alrek Torik emerged from hyperspace and assumed a low orbit, deploying shuttles and starfighters to bring in much needed relief and reinforcements.

The mission to defend Corellia from the Empire proved to be more difficult than was originally anticipated, due to the limitations Corellia possessed in its conquest advantages and the unrelenting nature of our enemy. The primary method of defending Corellia was not the use of soldiers on the ground as Alpha Company had hoped for, but rather its pilots in the skies through starfighter missions and dogfighting. The situation exposed the unit to an area it had limited experience in, and forced its troopers to adapt to overcome these new challenges. Hardened ground warriors quickly picked up the necessary piloting skills and bravely hurled themselves at wing after wing of Imperial fighters to secure the Corellia system from the seemingly endless stream of Imperial forces.

The early stages of the campaign went well, and Alpha Company forces managed to quickly overtake the Imperial offensive and began their own counter-attack, surging ahead in the race to capture Corellia. By the end of day three, however, Imperial forces had exploited a key advantage (spammable Black Talon flashpoint bug) and put Alpha Company forces back on the defensive. After this window of opportunity closed for the enemy the following morning, Alpha Company forces began crawling back into the fight at a steady rate, again halting <UMBRA>'s advance and turning the tide back into the favor of the Republic.

Day five of the fighting proved to be the most successful, as the Imperials stalled and Alpha Company's forces fought with renewed hope and vigor. Squadrons of Alpha Company pilots secured countless victories over the Empire and our supply lines kept critical war supplies flowing onto the battlefield. Our lead over <UMBRA> steadily increased throughout the day, and held out through the night as Alpha Company forces retired briefly to rest and rearm for the final confrontation the following day.

The victories of the previous day appeared to wound the Imperials, but they were not done fighting. They again launched a final effort to overtake Alpha Company's forces and bring the fight for Corellia to a close. Throughout the day <UMBRA>'s forces pushed hard against our lines in an effort to budge the tide of battle in their favor, scoring minor advances which kept Alpha Company's leaders on edge. Due to the continued spirit and dedication of Alpha Company's troopers, these small gains never matured into footholds and <UMBRA>'s offensive continued to remain stagnant. By nightfall their forces abandoned the campaign and crawled back into the hyperlanes from which they came. Corellia remained securely in the hands of the Republic, thanks to the dedication and tenacity of the loyal soldiers of Alpha Company.

After the last elements of Imperials departed the battlefield, Alpha Company forces began looking elsewhere to support the Republic. The Hoth system had also suffered a large Imperial invasion by <Reign>, and the freelancers of <Uncharted Space> were struggling against shady Imperial tactics (suiciding in fixed warzone matches for conquest points). Alpha Company forces re-directed a detachment of forces from Corellia to Hoth in an effort to aid in the devolving situation. Although Alpha Company's efforts made a noticeable impact on the field, our entry was not enough to stop the eventual Imperial victory. Hoth fell to the Empire's cheap tactics.

After the fate of Hoth had been decided, Alpha Company forces returned to Corellia and celebrated its victory with a fireworks display. After the end of festivities, local defenses were deployed and the bulk of Alpha Company's forces returned to their berthing aboard the Torik for some hard earned down time.

    Positive Points:
    • Our entire unit came together to focus on the mission at hand and contributed to our eventual victory, despite the poor conquest bonuses which applied to it.
    • War Supplies proved to be a critical element in our conquest strategy, securing hundreds of thousands of conquest points
    • Many troopers who previously avoided Galactic Starfighter are now enjoying this portion of the game due to their forced exposure
    • We successfully challenged and defeated a larger guild in conquest after beginning the fight nearly six hours later
    • We are now able to take down the Imperial Commander NPC on Corellia with total control via airstrikes
    • Corellia will not be vulnerable again for nearly two months, allowing us to thoroughly rest and prepare for the next conquest
    Negative Points:
    • The conquest effort was far more challenging than was initially anticipated, we underestimated our competition's will to fight
    • Due to the demands of the mission, a few calls for assistance from our allies throughout the week had to be ignored
    • Corellia was the best option given the strategic/political landscape, but was a terrible choice for our guild due to its limiting conquests bonuses (we have never been a starfighter-focused group)
    • Many troopers did not have very high Stronghold Bonus, resulting in a more challenging conquest gain experience
    • The amount resources expended to conquer this planet was staggering
    • This invasion required an unreasonable amount of man-hours in order to achieve victory, new tactics must be developed to reduce the demand on our troopers
    Overall Assessment and Recommendation:
I am extremely satisfied with everyone's performance during this conquest effort. We knew it was an undesirable fight from the start with Galactic Starfighter being the sole bonus objective to complete, but our determination, dedication, and quality membership proved to overcome this challenge. There were many reasons why we chose this fight rather than another planet with more favorable bonuses for us, and ultimately the disadvantages incurred by starfighter-only bonuses were less harmful than the disadvantages presented by our competition on other planets. Additionally, Corellia provides us with a huge benefit in our efforts to unlock the remaining sections of the Torik.

Some very important lessons were learned during this experience. Crafting is the key to a passive victory. In order to reduce the amount of hours required to succeed in conquests, we must maximize our passive Conquest point gain via crafting. Stockpiling massive amounts of raw materials directly translates into more conquest points earned without requiring active play by our members. Reduced active hours means a more relaxing and enjoyable Conquest experience. Every trooper needs to begin preparing for our next conquest right now by gathering materials for war supplies over the next couple months. I hope to see every member able to craft 200-250 war supplies each at a minimum. This lofty goal is entirely achievable if we don't put off resource gathering to the last minute. Start gathering materials at a steady, sustainable pace over the many weeks before our next campaign and we will be more than ready to invade when the time comes.

Additionally, everyone needs to work on their personal strongholds. Having a 100% stronghold bonus means every objective you complete is worth double the points. It is not a surprise that the top two scorers this week both had a 100% stronghold bonus. Develop a plan to get your bonuses as high as possible during the downtime between campaigns. Tips and tricks will be posted in the next few days in the training forums.

Thank you to everyone who put in an unreasonable amount of time to ensure our victory. None of us could ever ask you to show the dedication that you did, and I am humbled by your efforts. I hope our banner flying over Correllia is some compensation for your sacrifices. Leadership will be taking the lessons from this effort to better plan for our next conquest, and hopefully make it far less grueling on everyone. This fight was likely to be the toughest conquest we will ever have to fight, as lost enthusiasm for the process amongst our competition and better preparations on our part will make future campaigns easier. In the mean time, lets milk every advantage out of our hold on Corellia and bring all of the Torik's systems online!
